Last week, Willow River Elementary’s 4th & 5th grade students participated in the Prairie Fire Children’s Theater production of, “Sleeping Beauty.” After four nights of rehearsals, the students performed on Friday, April 26th. That hard work paid off in a fabulous show!

Hudson Hospital generously funded a Hudson Action Book Club Little Free Library for each elementary school. Hudson School District Destination Imagination leader, Liz Malanaphy, started a book club at each building to dig into a health issue of the club’s choice. At Houlton Elementary School, the club of 5 chose to read about healthy eating choices, and as their end project, decided to create a play to share with younger students at the school. After 5 weeks of reading, meeting after school, planning, and practicing, the group of 3rd and 4th graders shared their play called “Eat Your Vegetables” with 3 grade classes . This club provided a great opportunity to bring together kids from different grades and different classrooms to work on a common project. This was a great way for students to learn about a health topic of their choice, and for them to take action and share their learning with others.
Houlton alumni students came back to read to classes, as part of the Athletes Making Progress (AMP) club. The HHS students spent a half hour in each classroom, introducing themselves, sharing their involvement in sports and speaking about the lessons in leadership and teamwork they’ve learned through sports. Each of the athletes read a book to a classroom of students and answered questions afterward.
Board members, Jamie Johnson and Bruce Hanson, took the oath of office at the April 22nd Board of Education work session. Both were recently re-elected and will serve for another three years. Thank you to both gentlemen for their service to our Hudson students, staff, and community.
The Houlton Sewing Club has been busy all year sewing cloth bags for the Books in Bags for Babies program. The students make the bags which are filled with a children’s book, information on the importance of reading, School District contact information, and an application for a Hudson Public Library card.
Great work by this service-minded crew!
It is National School Age Care Recognition Week, take a moment and say thanks to this great group of people who welcome children to school every morning and keep them engaged in the afternoon! The Hudson School District appreciates the time and attention you give to children everyday!
Okello Kelo Sam, a renowned drummer and musician from Uganda, visited Hudson Prairie to teach students drumming patterns, songs, singing games, and dances in Mrs. Gallick’s music classes. Okello leads workshops throughout Europe and the U.S. on Ugandan dance and music. A big thank you to the Hudson Prairie PTO for sponsoring this very special guest.

Second graders in Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Filarsky’s classes at North Hudson Elementary partnered with Family Fresh for the “Earth Day Bags” project. The project is done by students all over the United States to share and learn about Earth Day. Students decorated grocery bags for customers to use with environmental facts and suggestions to help us appreciate and take care of our Earth.
