Hudson Middle School Honors December’s Raiders of the Month

Hudson Middle School hosted an award breakfast for December’s Raider of the Month honorees. December’s theme was Service – The action of helping or doing work for someone for no personal tangible benefit. Each grade level house, Tech. Ed., Spanish and PE nominated two students to be honored with the award. The Middle School hosts this special breakfast on the third Friday of each month to acknowledge students who show outstanding qualities that embody the monthly theme. Great job Raiders!

Hudson Hosts Western Wisconsin Conference Dance Competition

On Saturday, Hudson High hosted the 25th annual Western Wisconsin Conference Dance Competition, where schools from three different athletic conferences – Big Rivers, Dunn-St. Croix and Middle Border – competed for the title of Conference Champions.

The Varsity Raidaires held on to their title of Big Rivers Conference Champs, with their award-winning performances in Jazz and Hip Hop. The Varsity Raidaires will head to the Western Regionals on January 26 in Wausau to compete for Regional Champion and qualify for the State Dance Competition, Feb. 2.  The Varsity team is coached by Kim Hoff, Monica Servi and Kristin Van Den Broeke.

In the solo and ensemble division, soloist Chloe H. and Hailey B. were named First-Team All-Conference for Big Rivers, with Hailey B. placing third overall, and Chloe H. placing first.  In the ensemble division, several Hudson duets took home Second-Team All-Conference honors, as well as placing in the top three including: Alivia T. and Ella B. (1st), Brooke J. and Lexie S. (2nd), Elle F. and Kassie E. (3rd) and Mikaela B. and Emily W. (4th).

For the JV division the Hudson JV team came away victorious and was awarded JV Conference Champions for their performances in Pom and Jazz.  Next up, the JV Team travels to DC Everest High School to compete at JAM Saturday to retain their JV State Champions title. The JV team is coached by Carynn Arend and Ashley Herink.

Middle School Geography Bee Winners

Last week, Hudson Middle School conducted their annual GeoBee for the National Geographic Bee, an annual geography competition sponsored by the National Geographic Society. This year’s HMS winner was Shloke J., with second place going to Graeme P., and third place going to Sawyer R.

Shloke will have the chance to compete in Madison at the state-level competition in March. Great job and good luck in Madison!

Hudson Finishes First At River Falls Gymnastics Invitational

Hudson High School Gymnastics took first place at the River Falls invitational meet on Saturday with a season high of 138.55. Caroline E. had a great day placing 5th on vault with a 9.15, 6th on bars with an 8.5, 4th on floor with a 9.35 and 2nd in the all around with a 35.35. Ava J. also had a great day placing first on the vault with a 9.375 and taking 6th in the all around with a 34.70. Amber R. also made the podium with an 8th place finish on the vault with a 9.0. Paige H. again only competed on the bars and won the event with a 9.30. It was overall a great team win with all the girls showing consistency in all four events. Congratulations Raider’s Gymnastics!

Mr. Mick of Space St. Croix Visits River Crest

Mr. Mick of Space St. Croix visited River Crest 3rd graders on December 21st, to share exciting information about the New Horizons Kuiper Belt Extended Mission! On New Year’s Day 2019, 12:33am EST, NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft will fly by Kuiper Belt, nicknamed Ultima Thule.  The students were excited to learn about the mission and received a paper model of the spacecraft.

Another Win for HHS Gymnastics

Hudson High School Gymnastics hosted their second conference home meet of the season on Friday night against River Falls and Superior. The Raiders won the triangular meet with a final team score of 135.10. River Falls finished with a 134.525 and Superior scored a 109.20.
For Hudson, Caroline Erickson led the team taking second in the all around competition with a 35.00. She placed first on floor with a 9.375, tied for second on vault with a 9.2 and fourth on the uneven bars with a 8.45. Also helping out the varsity team were freshmen Ava Jensen and Ava Wilbur. Ava Jensen took a first place finish on vault with a 9.25 and third place in the all around with a 34.125. She also placed second on balance beam with a 8.325. Ava Jensen and Ava Wilbur tied for fourth on the floor exercise with an 8.9. Ava Wilbur also tied for sixth on the vault along with sophomore Amber Robey with an 8.4. Amber Robey also finished seventh on the balance beam and ninth on the floor exercise. Sophomore Paige Hillman has been suffering from an ankle injury but still competed on the uneven bars and took first place at the meet with a 9.20.

The Hudson JV team also won their meet with a final team score of 113.35. Leading the JV team in the all around was freshman Evy Roth taking first place with a score of 30.45. Evy placed second on JV beam with a 8.0 and second on JV vault with a 8.0. Sophomore Grace Dickinson took first place on the vault with an 8.1. Maia Malchow placed second on JV floor with an 8.2 and first place on the uneven bars with a 7.7.
The next gymnastics meet is on Saturday January 12th, 11:00am, at the River Falls High School Winter Wonderland Invitational. There are two conference meets remaining in January against Rice Lake and Menomonie.

North Hudson Students Collect Donations for Tara’s Totes

As part of their Researchers unit, 3rd grade students at North Hudson Elementary learned how to have a positive impact on their community.  To put this learning into practice, they chose to collect household items for local organization, Tara’s Totes. Tara’s Totes provides essential, everyday items to families who have been displaced by a house fire. Great work, North Hudson!

Hudson Prairie Students Practice Kindness

During this season of giving, Hudson Prairie students have put to practice what they’ve been learning about kindness and helping those in need, by bringing in toys, cleaning supplies, baby items, hats, mittens, socks, backpacks and gift cards. The items they collected will all be donated to St. Croix County and Grace Place. Pictured is Grace Place Executive Director, Duana Bremer, and Hudson Prairie’s 5th Grade Leadership Team along with all the donated items.
