Hello River Crest Families!
My name is Anna Lurndal and I am the school counselor at River Crest. The role of a school counselor is to support the social/emotional, academic and career development of a student across their educational journey by providing a variety of services, both proactive and responsive.
What I do at River Crest:
- Teach Life Skills lessons in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. Each lesson is 35 minutes and designed to be proactively teaching skills. Kindergarten and 1st grade receive weekly lessons, while 2nd-5th grade receive biweekly lessons. Here are some of the topics we learn about:
- Problem Solving
- Growth Mindset and the brain
- Emotions and self-regulation
- Empathy
- Conflict Resolution
- Self-Control
- Friendships and more!
- Provide individual counseling. This is available to ALL students at any time!
- Please note that this is not long-term therapy. For ongoing and serious mental health needs, I’m happy to work with students and families to refer them to outside providers.
- Provide small group counseling on topics such as anxiety, self-regulation, family change, grief, academic success, and friendships. Groups are formed based on need and student data.
- Collaborate and consult with staff members to provide layers of support to students.
- Facilitate and manage school-wide programs to encourage and acknowledge positive behavior.
- Provide crisis response services.
- Collaborate with families to support students.
- Help provide resources for specific needs.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns you have – I am here to help! I look forward to connecting with you. Also, be looking for “Counselor Corner” parentsquare posts that will update you on what students are learning about in Life Skills and fun school-wide activities.
Have a great school year!
Ms. Lurndal
