Mid-Year School Expectations Review
Often, we find a need for a mid-year “reboot” to help us stay the course with school-wide behavior expectations. The PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program provides strategies that we’ve been using since we’ve returned after break:
- Restate goals – Remind students that the goals you set for the school at the beginning of the year are still valid.
- Reteach expectations– Sometimes students just need a reminder of expectations. Deliberately and openly acknowledging positive behavior helps to drive this point home.
- Bring in new rewards – Boost interest by introducing new ideas for classroom and all-school rewards.
- Encourage accountability –Inviting students to help with the review by asking questions, having students model appropriate behaviors, and discussing why these things are important to help build student ownership and accountability.
Our PBIS program can help our school to begin the second half of the year with renewed anticipation, and with a strong focus on following the Houlton Way!
