Northwood Technical College is now accepting the Wisconsin Driver Education Grant!
Northwood Technical College is proud to announce they have been approved as a provider for the Wisconsin Driver Education Grant Program.
About the Grant: Eligible students can enroll in any driver education program offered by an authorized provider, with tuition paid directly to the driver training school. The grant covers 30 hours of classroom instruction, 6 hours of observation, and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel. Please note that the grant is not retroactive for courses already completed. Grant funds expire after 18 months of inactivity, but students are welcome to reapply.
Eligibility: Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch may apply to Wisconsin DMV to have their classroom and behind-the-wheel training paid for through the Driver Education Grant program.
How to apply: Students can apply for the grant through the Wisconsin DMV website wisconsindmv.gov/degrant search under the Class D Driver Education Grant Program tab.
How it works:
- After approval, students will receive a confirmation email with a coupon code.
- Provide the coupon code to Northwood Technical College when enrolling in Driver Education.
- Northwood Tech will apply the coupon, and the grant will cover your course fee.
Note: Our online system is unable to process coupons for payment. Please email or call us at driversed@northwoodtech.edu or 715.234.7082, option #4, and we will send you a registration form to manually process your coupon.

- October 21 – December 1, 2024 Class#95
- December 2, 2024 – January 26, 2025 Class#99

Registration must be done at least one week before the start of the class. Northwood Tech needs time to create your child in our system and email you the login directions along with their newly created student ID number. Any registration received after the one-week prior deadline will be enrolled in the next available online class.
Thank you for your interest in our online class. Below are a few things to note about the online class.
- The email you provide when registering will be the one that will get the login information and also the one the instructor will use to communicate with your child about missing assignments or tests. In light of this information, you may feel it’s best to use a parent email, so you can stay informed.
- Please list a cell phone number (either parent or student) to have tied to your child’s account should the need for an extra verification step arise.
- Class runs for 6 weeks. Each week several units open and students have until the end of the week to complete the work within each assigned units. At the end of the week, those units close and the next set will open. Students need to be self-motivated!
- There is no set time students have to be logged in. They must need to make sure they log in each week to complete the assigned modules. Weekly modules open on Mondays and close the following Sunday night.
- Students need to receive a 78% or higher to successfully pass this course and move on to the behind-the-wheel portion. After a student submits an assignment, they can go back anytime during the class to redo the assignment to improve their grade.
- We have found our Blackboard system is not compatible with Internet Explorer. The best search engines to use are Firefox and Chrome.
- Knowledge test and road signs test (permit tests) will be done at the DMV once students are 15 years old (and must be scheduled for behind-the-wheel). The final exam students take during the online class is NOT the permit test.
- After your child successfully completes the class, you will get a confirmation email and next steps for BTW. The BTW fee is $275.
It is important to note the college’s main form of communication is email. Please be sure you are checking your junk/spam folder as our emails have often been going to junk/spam.
Once your child’s registration form and payment is received, Northwood Tech will email you information about connecting to our online system – Blackboard. If you have any questions, contact us via email at driversed@northwoodtech.edu or via phone at 715.234.7082; option #4
