Laude Recognition at Graduation
The Class of 2025 will be our first class to graduate under the Latin Honors System. The Latin Honors System recognizes students for their rigor in academics and increases students options by encouraging them to take classes in their passion areas. The focus is on the academic achievement of the individual student through recognition at graduation.
A student’s Laude Score will be calculated after the tenth day of the second semester of their senior year. The GPA at the end of Semester 1 of senior year, which must meet the minimum 3.5 to be considered, will be used to calculate the score, along with the Laude Classes taken in Semester 2 of senior year. The score is determined by multiplying the student’s cumulative, unweighted GPA after Semester 1 by the number of Laude points the student has or is anticipated to earn. Each approved course has designated Laude points assigned to it. The Latin Honors System breakdown can be found in the course catalog.
The senior class Academic Speaker will be chosen from students who earned Summa Cum Laude honors and who submitted a speech for consideration. Submitted speeches will be reviewed by a committee and a speaker for the class will be chosen based on the committee’s recommendation.
Act 95 and Class Rank
Schools that incorporate the Laude system for recognizing academic achievement at graduation typically do not recognize “class rank,” which is based on their grade point average (GPA). In lieu of recent Wisconsin Legislation Act 95, which requires schools to rank students based on their GPA, we will include student’s rank on their transcript moving forward.
Identifying the top 5% and 10% of students in a graduating class for the purposes of Wisconsin Act 95: Guaranteed Admission to UW System Institutions, as well as the WI Academic Excellence award, is determined by the factors below in rank order in the event of a tie:
- Cumulative GPA
- Laude Points – total earned by the end of Junior year
- WI State ACT Score from Spring of Junior year at Hudson High School
Students who earn this recognition will receive a communication from the Hudson High School regarding next steps.
